Take Pride in Newry

Newry City is seriously lacking in the “festival” department with seemingly every other town or village in our area having a big annual trademark event attracting thousands of people and their business to the local community. To try to change all that the NRC are organising a community festival in September celebrating the diversity of culture and communities across Newry and Mourne.

Newry has changed so much in this past ten years. Our city is so much more diverse culturally with some many people from central Europe and beyond making it their new home. From a gay community perspective visibility and quality of life is changing at an amazing pace. Newry is becoming more aware of their minority communities overall and having a platform to enhance that even more should only be welcomed.

The event is taking place on Saturday the 29th of September and it’s an absolutely huge undertaking which has the capacity in the long term of putting Newry on the map for visitors from far and near.

The Pride in Newry Festival wants to celebrate all thats good about our city and to show that we are indeed proud of where we live.

We want as many sections of the community involved as possible. In fact for it to be a roaring success which our city deserves we need everyone involved!

To this end the NRC are organising an Open Meeting for anyone who would like to play their part. The meeting will be in the NRC Centre on Thursday the 14th of June at 8pm and a festival committee will be set up on the night.

Visit www.gaynewry.com for more information on local LGBT happenings or call in to the NRC Centre at 82a Hill Street in Newry or phone us on 028 3025 0528. Opening times: Monday to Friday 7pm to 10pm. Saturday 2pm to 6pm.
