In June 2014 Alicia Perry released the first book in her biography series entitled Confessions Of A Nobody ‘Mistreated’ on amazon sites across the globe. The book unveils important issues such as gender identity, child abuse, corporal punishment and bullying; while also giving a very personal insight into living through these controversial experiences. However, the focus remains on positivity and what can be achieved when you turn your life around.
Born in a male body that lacked an Adam’s-apple Alicia V. Perry was christened with a boys’ name.
From birth she always identified herself as a girl and at the early age of five she was confused by the boundaries of what was allowed by her parents. She jested with me “when my mother made me play with an action man, I knitted him a cardigan.”
The motivation to write these books came from a song by singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman called Tell it like it is. The books names were inspired by a song from the artist P!nk entitled Perfect; Mistreated, Misplaced and Misunderstood in the quest to be Ms Perry.
In February this year she finished 6th place at the Annual Shorty Awards, in the author category, in New York, USA. The awards are by international public vote and it is worth noting that there were hundreds in her category.
In May she was enlisted in the Top 10 Most Influential LGBT people in N. Ireland to celebrate LGBT Awareness Week. This was following record reads with her latest column for G.N.I. Magazine, where in Australia alone over 12’000 people read it. It’s also worth mentioning that while she was there the Magazine won Best Online Contribution at the 16th Annual N.I. Goscar Ceremony; beating several big UK players.
“Awesome example of triumph over adversity! What an achievement and what a role model.” Wayne McCullough, World Champ Boxer.
“I was thoroughly engrossed escaping my own challenges” Alex Reid, UK TV Star.
“Amazing book that deserves recognition” The Sunday Life Tabloid, UK.
“An honest, heart-breaking and personal account.” Blast 106 Radio, UK.
“Feel the Magic!’ Tony Todd, L.A. Producer.
Earlier this month Alicia was a guest on the Chris Barry Radio Show on Dublin’s FM104. The show is the most talked about in Ireland and very controversial indeed. Alicia V. Perry is a transgender woman who has been doing so much good work both publicly and behind the scenes for the transgender community locally and internationally.
She was met with some very transphobic comments both on the show and online. One caller even voiced that he was disgusted for all LGBT people. I was so proud of how she dealt with things and how she stood up to people for the good of the LGBT community in Ireland and beyond. Below is the link if you would like to listen.
You can show your support for Alicia by liking her new page www.facebook.com/aliciavperry and leaving your comments, thoughts and suggestions. She is also on twitter @aliciavperry.
She also was a very special guest on American host Stephen Robert’s show the night before and the support was unbelievable.
