It’s hard to believe that the NRC Centre on Hill Street in Newry is nearly Six months old and It’s only now that the facility is starting to display it’s full potential as a vibrant, happening centre of enormous benefit to our community. Well what a year it has been for the Newry Rainbow Community. It was the year of establishing our new Drop in Centre at 82a Hill Street and it is certainly proving to be a focal point for our community with the opportunity of a cup of tea and a chat and access to LGB and T related information and much needed information on health issues. Our Open Night was a brilliant opportunity to meet people from parents to professionals and we really did appreciate you all coming along. The Centre is open five nights a week and we are looking forward to providing access to lots more services in the year ahead. (more…)

Well Christmas time is well and truly here and all we can do is wish everyone a very happy and restful one with your nearest and dearest.

It can be a difficult time for the gay community especially for those who are not “out” to their families and feel for many reasons that they can’t ever broach the subject. The family still expect to see their son or daughter for Christmas dinner and the family member always has to be on guard and ready with a suitable reply in case there’s an awkward question asked. Wednesday December 1st is World AIDS Day. Like many people I’ve been wracking my brains for something new to write about HIV. While there is “news” and developments every day, there is no dramatic breakthrough to report, no new message to trumpet. Of course, that makes it even more important that we continue to discuss the virus, that we continue to think about it and that each one of us commits ourselves to continuing to being part of the fight against it – or joining in that fight.
