I’m Gay – Just two little words, but unless you have been through the years of self denial, inner turmoil and then possibly that period of coming out to your family and friends, it is hard to realise just how unbelievably difficult it can be to say them out loud.
The Newry Rainbow Community (NRC) has recently been set up as a body to offer support to local people who see themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered, with a principal aim of showing people they don’t have to deal with this on their own and more importantly instill a sense of community amongst us all. To this aim in the recent past we have organised Socials, Walking outings and a recent very successful weekend in Dublin. We would see this just as a beginning and look forward to many more events in the future.This year we intend to organise a trip to Belfast Pride in August. We are also investigating the possibility of a Gay night in our city once again so if you are a Bar or venue that would support this please get in contact.The NRC meet once a month in Ballybot House, Cornmarket and all are welcome, in fact just like any other organisation we can’t run without support. Forthcoming dates for meetings, events etc will be published in this column.We hope to raise many issues in this fortnightly column and would really appreciate input from you all.
